Civic responsibility encompasses the rights, obligations, and duties of citizens in society, including both required civic duties and voluntary civic engagement activities.

Civics: Civics is the study of the rights and obligations of citizens in society.
The term derives from the Latin word civicus, meaning “relating to a citizen”. Civic education is the study of the theoretical, political and practical aspects of citizenship, as well as its rights and duties.
Civic participation encompasses a wide range of formal and informal activities. Examples include voting, volunteering, participating in group activities, and community gardening.

Civic Virtue
Civic responsibility can also include helping promote community activities, encouraging corporate giving to help the community, working to register voters, advocating for the needy, obeying all laws and behaving in an ethical manner.
The concept of civic responsibility was first recorded in ancient Rome, where citizens wanted to make contributions for the good of the whole society.
Civic virtue is the dedication of one to the common welfare through selfless actions even at the cost of one’s interests. This concept is closely related to the selfless behavior with which one approaches society. The best example of how we practice civic virtue today is by participating in charity events to benefit our community.

But a civic responsibility is stressed as a socially good behavior to perform. Examples of civic responsibility include voting in elections, signing up for the military, volunteering in the community, participating in government politics, and holding public office.
Civic responsibility can include participation in government, church, volunteers and memberships of voluntary associations. Actions of civic responsibility can be displayed in advocacy for various causes, such as political, economic, civil, environmental or quality of life issues. Moral duty helps people to be honest, sincere, kind and helpful.
